Mr. Charles “Neal” Mahler

Obituary of Mr. Charles “Neal” Mahler

Mr. Charles “Neal” Mahler passed away February 5, 2024 at home with his beloved wife, Sally Mahler, by his side. He was born January 6, 1950 in Rosenberg, Texas to the late Leon and Patti Mahler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Larry Mahler.

He had many professions over the years, getting his start as a machinist with Cameron Iron Works in Houston, TX. Neal later went to work for FMC in the oil and gas industry, holding a number of positions which allowed him to live and travel around the world. Later in life he owned his own home inspection business and eventually ended his career as correctional officer for the State of Florida.

Neal enjoyed learning and trying new things; he was a fun guy who led a full and interesting life. Over his lifetime, he mastered several hobbies to include bonsai, fast draw competitive shooting (nationally ranked), woodworking, cooking, wine making, and baking cookies for his grandchildren. Neal was also an avid Houston Astros and Florida Gators fan. He enjoyed watching cooking shows and reading sci-fi. Neal was a proud Texan.

It would be remiss to omit the love story of Neal and Sally. They were high school sweethearts from the small town of Orchard, TX who eloped to Houston following high school graduation. After two years of marriage, they realized how young they were and both decided it best to divorce. Thirty years later, Neal and Sally reconnected and eventually remarried, spending 24 years together. The two shared many adventures and made beautiful memories over the years.

Neal is survived by his cherished wife Sally Mahler, children Amanda (Darin) Crowley, Wade Mahler, Casey Dean (Sean Connelly), and Kyle (Veronica) Mahler, grandchildren Cash and Delta Crowley, and Bowie Mahler; siblings Gaye (Don) Blunt and Steve (Angie) Mahler, and a host of extended friends and family.

Neal was a loving husband, father, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Saint Jude’s Hospital and cheer for the Houston Astros!
