Obituary of Rev. Robert Gray
Centerville, Georgia – Rev. Robert F. “Bob” Gray, as he was known completed his earthly journey on Thursday, January 18, 2024, when he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He had retired as a part-time Assistant Pastor of First Baptist Church, Centerville in June 2019; and as a pastor of Henderson Baptist Church, Henderson Georgia in June 2006. In addition to these churches Bro. Bob had served as pastor of other churches in Florida, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia and in up-state New York. In 1993 he retired from Peachbelt Mental Health Center, n.k.a Middle Flint Behavior Health Center, Warner Robins, after 20 years of service, and with over 30 years of service to the State of Georgia.
After his first retirement in 1993 Bob was for several years an active disaster relief volunteer with the American Red Cross and worked on many national disaster relief operations. Additionally, he was an active volunteer with Campers on Mission, a Christian volunteer organization that provided assistance to churches and missions throughout the United States.
Bob grew up in Quincy, Florida. After serving in the US navy during the Korean War, he graduated from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida in 1961 and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri in 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Gray of Centerville, and their 3 children: Pamela (Steve, Jr.) Morgan of Warner Robins, John (Susie) Gray of Centerville; Karen Gray, Byron, GA; and by their eight grandchildren: Christopher (Stefany), Matthew and Sara-Anne Gray; Steve “Trey” (Laurel) Morgan, Faith (Wade) Richardson; Micah Morgan, Andrew and Austin Gray; two foster grandchildren, Danielle and Adam Gibson; and nine great-grandchildren, Callie, Leila, Macie, and Boston Gray; Ella and Judd Morgan; Tucker and Emery Richardson; and Lance Gray. He is also survived by one sister: Norma Jean Gray, Sidell, LA.
Bob was preceded in death by both his parents, Floyd and Myrtice Gray, Quincy, Florida, and a sister Virginia Lee Gray.
A visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at First Baptist Church of Centerville. A funeral service honoring the life of Bob will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 3:30PM at First Baptist Church of Centerville with Pastor Don Feezor and Steve Morgan, Jr. A private graveside service for family only will be held immediately following the services in the Centerville Cemetery.
