Obituary of Staff Sergeant Mark Wayne Jones (Ret.)

Come, meet me in the garden, Lord

And take me by thy hand,

The flowers are blooming all around,

And the trees are tall and grand...

Mr. Mark Wayne Jones, son of the late Mr. Johnie Milton Jones, Sr., and the late Mrs. Dorothy Mae Brown Jones, and a native of Willacoochee, Atkinson County, Georgia, has given his life in service.

Life began in the year of our Lord and Savior, February 19, 1961, in Atkinson County, Georgia, for Mark. On the morning of July 15, 2023, the angel of silence came into the room of Mark Wayne Jones at Houston Healthcare, with chilly fingers and sealed his lips. His soul winged its flight from the world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest.

The early years of Mark's life were spent in Atkinson County, Georgia, where he grew up. Mark completed his education in the public schools of Atkinson County with an ambition to excel and to make preparation for his life's pilgrimage. Mark graduated from Atkinson County High School in 1980, and following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army.

In his aspiration to exhibit good Christian character, early in his youth he reverently attended church services with his family at New Mount Moriah Freewill Baptist Church, Willacoochee, Atkinson County, Georgia.

Mark was joined in Holy Matrimony to Waltraud (Susi) Franck, and to this union, one son was parented, Dominique Jones.

In retrospect to mankind, Mark served tours in the United States Army, providing exemplary service to his country for sixteen years. He medically retired with full honors from the United States Army as Staff Sergeant on December 31, 1996. Mark received many awards and commendations during the span of his military career to include the Meritorious Service Medal. Jones' tour of duty included Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Hood, Texas; and three tours in Europe, and finally arriving to serve at Robins Air Force Base in 1992.

Warner Robins, Georgia, became Marks' home, and he became employed with Boeing Company as a maintenance technician from 1994 to 2004.

Connectionally, Mark was past president and member of the Boss Riders Motorcycle Club, most reverently and ardently providing services, abetting those in need, encouraging the discouraged, and lending clemency to many.

Mark was predeceased by his parents, Johnie Milton Jones, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Brown Jones; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Ella Bell Brown; paternal grandparents, Delamar Turner and Sennie Mann Jones; three siblings: Lorenzer Jones, Dorothy Jones Gaskin, Frank Jones; and his wife, Waltraud (Susi) Franck Jones.

In this final chapter of Mark's life, his culinary skills are not to go unnotice. He provided some of the most southern tasty and savory foods to be consumed, some which were posted on YouTube, "Pops Home Cooking".

Staff Sergeant Mark Wayne Jones (Ret.) leaves a rich legacy and memories to be cherished by a devoted and caring family, two sons: Dominique (Anna Sultan) Jones, Mark Jones, Jr.; one sister, Ardie Ragland; four brothers: Delamar (Betty) Jones, Johnie Milton (Hilda) Jones, Jr., Tim (Beverly) Jones, Curtis (Jill) Jones; and a host of other relatives and multifarious friends.

Come, meet me in the garden, Lord

Bestow on me thy love,

Endow me with new hope and peace,

And blessings from above.
