Obituary of Irene Barnard

Irene Barnard finished her race on Wednesday, July 5, 2023; her faith has now been realized – she now sees Jesus face to face.  She was 93 years old.  A visitation will take place at Oakland Baptist Church, Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 2 PM with the funeral service immediately following at 3 PM.  Mrs. Barnard will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Thomas J. Barnard at Magnolia Park Cemetery.

Irene was born March 28, 1930 to the late Mr. Cullen Cochrane and Mrs. Bessie Veal Cochrane.  Irene met and married the love of her life, both serving the Lord Jesus Christ together at the churches the Lord called them to for over 50 years. 

Her faith was displayed beautifully as she served graciously alongside her husband; you couldn’t find a more perfect, loving and gracious Pastor’s wife.  She was a faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church, sharing Jesus with many children as she taught Sunday School throughout the years, until she was no longer able.  She was an amazing prayer warrior calling out her children and grandchildren by name every day in prayer.

During the last few weeks, she continued thinking of others first, while waiting for the angels to carry her home to be with the LORD.

She didn’t miss an opportunity to tell others of the goodness of Jesus; during her last days, with confidence and tenderness, reminding family members to serve the LORD! When asked “how are you doing” she’d reply “just a passing through”. 

She is survived by her children: son, Phillip Thomas Barnard (Pam) and a daughter, Suzanne Luther (Ray); her grandchildren who lovingly called her G’mama: Cullen Barnard (Kristy), Justin Bowen (Rae), Shannon Barnard, Derek Bowen (Shawnee), Chris Barnard (Courtney), Kaley Bone (Tyler), Jacob Bryant (Denise), Blake Bryant (Hannah), Christian Bell (Brian), Jenny Howard (Ben), Candice Bader (Stefan) and 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made to Oakland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1509 Russell Pkwy, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
