Obituary of Wilson Harris Jones Jr.,

Wilson Harris Jones Jr., of Warner Robins, Georgia died on June 13, 2023, at the age of 80. Butch as he is known to friends and family, died at his brother’s house where he was residing. Butch was a long-time resident of Wellsburg, WV and graduated from Wellsburg High School class of 1960. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio when his parents were living in Follansbee, WV. He attended West Liberty College after high school but found after a couple years that college was not his cup of tea. Soon after leaving college and finding gainful employment with Wheeling Steel, he married Bonnie Sue Riggs, also from Wellsburg. In a declining steel industry, Butch after numerous layoffs found work with the Monongahela Power Company where he stayed until retirement the result of an accident.

Butch then spent several years as a “Snowbird” traveling to Florida in the winter and back to West Virginia during the warmer months. He eventually moved to the south living in Macon, Georgia for many years until his wife passed away in 2018. For a while, he resided in Macon, Georgia with his son Edward and his wife Vera Lynn (Finsley) Jones. After his son, daughter-in-law Lynn, grandson Kyle and his wife Shelby, moved to West Virginia, he moved in with his brother in early 2022 in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he resided until his death. Butch is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Sue (Riggs), his parents, Wilson Harris Jones, Sr., his mother, Kristodell Maundee (Van Meter) Jones, and his daughter Paula Christine Jones.

He is survived by his brother Charles D. (Angela) Jones, from Warner Robins, son Edward Harris (Lynn) Jones, and grandson Kyle Christopher Newt (Shelby) Jones, all currently residing in Wellsburg and Follansbee, WV respectively. No services are planned, as in a final act of Christian generosity, he donated his body to science.
