Obituary of Glenn Eugene Heck

Glenn E. Heck Glenn Eugene Heck, 80, of Warner Robins, GA peacefully passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009 with his devoted family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1929 in Mondovi, WI to parents Oscar and Mae Moy Heck. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 4, 2009 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, 701 Carl Vinson Parkway, Warner Robins, GA 31093. Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery, Dublin, GA at 3:00 P.M. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday May 3rd at the funeral home. After growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, Glenn moved with his parents to California where he graduated from the University of Redlands with a Bachelor of Music degree. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed four years at Robins Air Force Base as a bassoonist with the 769th Air Force Band. Glenn met and married Margaret Stephens from Dublin, Georgia, in 1953. Following his service in the Air Force he taught elementary and junior high school band in Warner Robins for two years. Heck was the first General Manager of Robins Telecable. Later he served as General Manager of Macon’s Cox Communications. Retiring from Cox after 26 years of service, he joined Flint Energies as Manager of Marketing and Member Services retiring in 1996. Active in the community, he served two terms as President of the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce where they adopted his theme for Warner Robins: “”Georgia’s International City.”” He was a Warner Robins Jaycees Vice-President. While serving as Warner Robins Noon Optimist Club President, he designed and launched its “”Youth of the Month”” recognition program. He served as Houston County Library System Trustee; Cubmaster for Boy Scouts, District Director for Boy Scouts and received the Silver Beaver award from the Central Georgia Council for BSA; Georgia Cable Television Association President. He served on the Houston County Board of Education for 13 years and served as Board President, was active with the Georgia School Boards Association and served as GSBA President. In 1981, Governor Busbee appointed him to Georgia’s Professional Standards Commission. When serving as Macon Arts Alliance President, he chaired the community committee that established Midsummer Macon, a summer training experience in music and the arts for young people. He helped organize and served as President of the Warner Robins Community Concert Association. He helped organize and served as President of Houston Arts Alliance. He composed the official bicentennial song for Warner Robins, “”200 Years of Freedom.”” Most recently, Heck served on the Board of the Central Georgia Genealogical Society and is a member of Laurens County Historical Society. Heck’s hobbies included writing and publishing religious music and growing roses to share with others. Glenn is a charter member of the Christian Science Society in Warner Robins and has served it in many capacities such as First Reader, Board Member, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Clerk, pianist and soloist. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret Stephens Heck, Warner Robins, GA, son David Stephens Heck Sherri, Brighton, CO, daughters Rebecca Heck Crawford John, Fernandina Beach, FL and Karen Margaret Heck, Beverly Hills, CA, grandsons Daniel Glenn Heck and Kyle Steven Heck, brothers Robert Oscar Heck, Marshfield, WI, Lyle Calvin Heck Ellen, Strum WI, Alger Roscoe Heck Lana, San Diego, CA, Keith Ortie Heck Carol, Grants Pass, OR, and many nieces and nephews.
