Obituary of Luther David Duke

Byron, GA: Mr. Luther Duke, 89, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2009. Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, February, 8th, 2009 in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Friends may contact the family at 109 Brighton Drive in Byron, GA. Mr. Duke was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Stewart and Annie Mae Kendall Duke, a sister Ethell Scott and brother William Duke. Mr. Duke was retired from Robins Air Force Base as a Civil Service employee, a veteran of World War II, a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church he was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Luther was a fishing guide for over seventeen years in Steinhatchee, Florida. Mr. Duke is survived by his wife of 62 years Mrs. Mary Hancock Duke, Byron, GA; Daughters; Martha Jimmy Witherington and Dianne Lynn Flanders both of Warner Robins, GA; Sister, Eteva Duran, Steinhatchee, FL; and Brother in Law David Scott of Warner Robins, GA. Three Grandsons Tony and Todd Sellers and Chad Walton. He is also survived by many beloved Nieces and Nephews. Flowers will be accepted, but those who wish may make donations to Shady Grove Baptist Church, or Heartland Hospice of Houston County. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
