Obituary of Homer D. Veal

Warner Robins, GA: Homer D. Veal, 83, passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in Second Baptist Church with burial in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Veal was born in Sharmant, AL. He was the son of the late Joe Francis Veal and Jeanette Plymel Veal. He was a member at Second Baptist Church and a retired fire fighter at Robins Air Force Base. During his younger years, Mr. Veal served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He flew in over 653 bombing flights during World War II. He was a POW in Japan for 7 months. He received several decorations which includes: two purple hearts the first one President Franklin D. Roosevelt pinned on him, two oak leaf clusters, seven battle stars, the European Campaign Metal and the Good Conduct Metal. Mr. Veal was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy P. Veal of Warner Robins, daughter, Brenda Ellison Tom of Valrico, FL, sons, Jack William Veal Michelle of Banning, CA, Kelly Joe Veal Pam of Guyton, GA, sisters, Patricia Dunbar and Sear Hurt both of Fitzgerald; brother, Richard Veal of Fitzgerald, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make a donation to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund @ 2504 Moody Rd., Warner Robins, GA, 31088, in memory of Mr. Veal. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
