Obituary of Rabun O. Smith

Warner Robins: Rabun O. Smith, 80, passed away Thursday January 31, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins. Burial will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Dr. Benny Tate, Dr. Jimmy R. Asbell Jr. and Rev. Marcus Butler will officiate. Mr. Smith was born in Knoxville, GA to the late Emmett and Edith McGhee Smith Merritt and the widower of Elaine Gnann Smith. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Rock Springs Congregational Methodist Church. He faithfully attended the Indian Springs Holiness Campground summer campmeetings for over 50 years and was currently serving on the board of directors. He was a graduate of the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, TN and the Atlanta Law School. He began his funeral service career at Hart’s Mortuary in Macon. He later worked for GMAC before moving to Warner Robins to become a partner in Christopher-Smith Funeral Home. He later founded Heritage Memorial Funeral Home where he worked until his passing. He was a past-president and of the Georgia Funeral Director’s Association and was currently on the board of directors of the Independent Funeral Directors of Georgia. Survivors include his daughter Kimberly David Harris, granddaughters Charly and Lauren Harris all of Grovania. Brother-in-law Heyward Gnann of Gainesville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indian Springs Holiness Campground, Attn: Alan Wood, P. O. Box 26605, Macon, GA 31221. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
