Obituary of Leon Reese Averett

Macon: Leon R. Averett, 73, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Gardens. Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. Missy Blumenthal will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Averett was born in Taylor County to the late Vera Williams Averett and Albert Averett and had lived in Macon since 1956. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Bataan and the U.S.S. Kearsarge. His sister Lillian Andrews and brother Prathan Albert Averett preceded him in death. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: sister and brother-in-law Laverne and Kennon Reynolds of Warner Robins; brother-in-law Robert Andrews of Macon; nephews and niece: Thomas and Ellen Reynolds of Warner Robins, Rob Dee Andrews of Monticello; great-nieces: Sarah and Mary Andrews of Monticello; special friends: W.E. Gilder Jr. and Shelia Phillips of Anderson, SC. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Georgia Hospice Serenity Gate @ 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31088, in memory of Mr. Averett.
