Obituary of Jack L. Joines

Bluffton, SC: Jack Joines, former Director of Engineering at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, GA, died on Sunday, March 25, in Savannah, Georgia from complications stemming from bladder cancer. Born on February 27, 1941 in Salem, IL, he grew up and graduated from Salem High School. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in civil engineering and earned his commission as an officer in the US Air Force through the ROTC program. In 1974, he earned a Master of Science degree in Facilities Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in many locations, including Germany, Vietnam, and the Philippines. During his Air Force career, Jack was awarded many decorations to include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Star. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1985 and began his second career as the Director of Engineering at the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, GA. While serving as the Director of Engineering, Jack was heavily involved in both the Georgia Society of Hospital Engineers, where he served as President in 1992, and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering ASHE, where he served on the Board of Directors in 2004. He retired from the Houston Medical Center and moved to Bluffton, South Carolina where he continued to serve as an ASHE certified instructor. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sheila Joines of Bluffton, SC, his brother and sister-in-law Jim & Sandy Joines of Jacksonville, FL; his sons and daughter-in-laws, Jason & Angie Joines of Canton, GA and Justin & Rachel Joines of Moore, OK; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Elizabeth Joines of Canton, GA and Jacob & Jack Joines of Moore, OK. A memorial service for Mr. Joines will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Warner Robins. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia with full military honors. Visitation will be from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home.
