Obituary of James Henry Howard

Savannah: Mr. James Henry Howard, 65, entered into rest on Sunday December 31, 2006 at St. Joseph-Candler Hospital in Savannah. Mr. Howard was born in Warner Robins, GA on July 7, 1941 but had resided in Savannah for the last 23 years where he was a faithful member of Cresthill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. J. and Mattie Lee Howard. He is survived by his brother, Bill R. Howard and his wife, Robbie, of Augusta; his sister, Betty H. Hedrick of Powersville: several nieces and nephews, a number of devoted cousins and friends, and by his most beloved dog, Miss Scarlett. Graveside services for Mr. Howard will he held Thursday January 4, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, GA. Rev. Gary L. Starrett will officiate. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the cemetery. Mr. Howard was talented in his work and recognized in his field as an expert teacher and innovator, not only in Savannah but in many areas of southeast Georgia. He was an instructor for Frank Arnold of Arnold’s International Pivot School. He also worked with the Continuing Education Department in Athens, GA as a trainer of advanced education to hair stylists. He was presently head Dean of Instruction at the Academy by Horst and Company. Through the years, he was a dedicated and beloved teacher to his many students as well as a friend to all. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be conducted in Savannah at 2 p.m on Monday, January 15, 2007 at Cresthill Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Jernigan officiating. The family will welcome friends following the service. If so desired, memorials may be made to Cresthill Baptist Church, 9120 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406 or to a charity of one’s choice. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
