Obituary of Mrs. Mary Emily Barkley Basting

Mrs. Mary Emily Basting, 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior March 9, 2024 with her beloved husband by her side. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, 3:00PM at Friendship Baptist Church.

Emily was born on December 5, 1951 in Macon, GA to the late Mildred and James Barkley. In addition to her parents, Emily is preceded in death by her son, Michael Willieby and brother, David Barkley. Emily was a devoted Christian who dedicated her life to serving her family and community. She was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church where she joined the welcome committee and prayer ministry. Emily enjoyed listening to joyful hymns, cooking meals for her friends, gardening, and  loving any animal. Throughout her life, she traveled throughout the United States and learning culinary skills. After settling back down in Warner Robins, GA, Emily joined the American Culinary Federation and worked for the Houston County School System as a nutritionist. Most importantly, Emily cherished the time spent time with her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren. 

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of almost 17 years, James Walter Basting, Sr.; son, Greg Willeby; grandchildren; Michael Willeby, Dillan Willeby, Devin Willeby and Tristen Willieby; great grandchildren; Miller Willeby and Arco Willieby, and a host of extended friends and family.
