Obituary of Sara Lou Jean Bateman

Mrs. Sara Lou Jean Bateman, 84, went to be with her Lord and personal Savior on January 16, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service honoring the life of Sara will be held Friday, January 20, 2023, 2:00 pm. A committal service will immediately follow in the Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery where her and her beloved husband will be laid to rest. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

Mrs. Sara was born on January 23, 1938 in Cochran, Georgia to the late Lihue Thompson and Dovie Peacock. Sara was a devoted Christian who had served the Lord, her God, through various ministries throughout her life. She and Perry were faithful members of Second Baptist Church. Sara was also a proud mother and a wonderful, devoted wife who took great pride in caring for those she loved and cherished. Sara was always the first to bring new neighbors a homemade pie or cake, wanting them to feel welcomeS to the neighborhood. Sara knew and understood the importance of hard work from the time she was a young child in Plant City, Florida where she helped her family pick strawberries. As an adult, she served as a Production Controller at Robins Air Force Base where she served faithfully for 35 years until her retirement. Mrs. Sara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Sara is preceded in death by her husband, Perry Bateman who waited for 94 hours and 10 minutes to hug and kiss his beautiful bride once more, while preparing the red rose bushes at their mansion; her precious granddaughter, Ariel Short; son-in-law Rodney Short; as well as brothers: Thomas, Raymond, and Buddy Thompson.

Left to cherish her beautiful memory is her devoted daughter, Pamela Short; grandson, Brandon Short; sister, Jeannette Farmer; goddaughter, Tara Land Guidry. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

A special thank you to nieces Sharon and Debbie, Hospice Care Options and her faithful Caregiver Connie for always rendering their loving care and time for Uncle Perry.
