Jammie Lee Whitfield, son of the late Gus Lee Whitfield and Elnora Byrom Hamilton, was born February 23, 1938 in Lilly, Georgia. His early schooling experiences in Lilly, GA. As a young adult, he moved to Miami, Florida where he worked for an upholstery factory making curtains and driving the delivery van. Jammie was a very loving individual who could always be found helping others in their time of need. He had devoted countless years of service to the Houston County School System where he served as a custodian at many different campuses. Jammie was a family-oriented man who loved being surrounded by those he loved, and when he was not working, he could be found on the road headed south to Florida to visit with his beloved children.

Jammie also possessed a true love for fishing, hunting, and cooking. He was a true connoisseur of meat as he often enjoyed spending time preparing classic treats made from pork. When Jammie began fishing, he had quickly learned two lessons that would stick with him for the rest of his life. One being that fishing brings peace; therefore, we must remain calm in all aspects of our life. He also learned the value of patience and that being patient brings an individual much success in their life. Jammie was a very wise individual who loved sharing stories and mentoring those he loved and cherished both young and old. He will forever be remembered for his infectious smile and charismatic personality.

While Jammie had accomplished so much in his lifetime and passed on his wisdom to a magnitude of people, nothing compared to the one relationship he had and that was with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jammie loved the Lord his God with all his heart, mind, and strength as Matthew 22:37 commands.

In addition to his mother and father there, awaiting Jammie at the gates of heaven are his beloved children, Michelle and Todd. Left to cherish his memory are his long-time companion, Ernestine Benefield, his beloved children: James Whitfield, Anthony Lucas, Tasha Smith, Keith Stuckey (Lisa), Nicolette Whitfield, Eric Whitfield, Tavares Whitfield, Jammie Lee Whitfield, Jr.; siblings, Earnestine Jordan (Ray), Alfaye Williams, Doretha Hamilton, Brenda Howard (Greg), Frank Hamilton (Janet), Kelly Hamilton (Linda), and Rufus Hamilton. Jammie is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of many extended family members and friends including Ethel Williams, Sandra Moss, Phillip Johnson, Mary Washington, Lisa Gibbens, Arthur Monroe, and Johnny Lee Perry.
