Shirley Peachey

Obituary of Shirley Jean Peachey

Shirley Jean Peachey “Peachey”, age 85, passed away September 23, 2021. A private, family memorial service and Internment will be held at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Peachey was born in Crossnore, North Carolina on March 6, 1936 to the late Posey Lee Buchanan and Alma Faye Huskins Buchanan Register. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col Malcolm T. Peachey Jr. (retired USAF) and her brother, Joey Register of Savannah, GA. Peachey proudly served her country by working in Civil Service at Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station, Honolulu, Hawaii and at Robins AFB, Georgia, for a total of forty-three years before her retirement in 2019. Peachey lived life to the fullest and always had a big beautiful smile for everyone she met. She loved to dance. In her younger years, Peachey was a model and dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She loved Hawaii. While living on Oahu, Peachey took Hula and Tahitian dance lessons and formed a Hula Troupe, consisting of other military wives and her daughter, to welcome International Ships that arrived at Pearl Harbor. One of the highlights of that experience was dancing for Prince Charles of the Royal Navy. After leaving Hawaii, Peachey continued dancing for special events, nursing homes, and recreation. A loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts. Now, she is surely dancing in Heaven. A Hui Hou (until we meet again).

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Craig (LaWanna) Peachey, Kenneth (Tammy) Peachey, Johnna (Melvin) Peachey Ecklund; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kim) Tidwell, Randall (Bernadette) Peachey, Tanner Peachey, Thomas Peachey, Samantha Peachey, Sabrina (Michael) Spencer, Tabitha McHarg, Adam Peachey, Matthew Ecklund, and Katie Ecklund. Peachey also leaves behind six great grandchildren, eight half-brothers and sisters, and a host of extended family and friends.
