Obituary of USAF (Ret.) SSgt. John Patrick Hume

Warner Robins, Georgia – USAF (Ret.) SSgt. John Patrick Hume, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. A Funeral Service honoring his life will be held Monday, August 23, 2021 at 12:00PM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Immediately following the services John will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret Hermanns Hume. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services from 11:00AM to 12:00PM.

John was born on August 8, 1937 in New York, New York to the late Charlotte Hormerte and Harold Edward Hume. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force faithfully for 20 years. Upon his retirement from the Air Force John continued to serve his country as a civilian at Robins Air Force Base where he served as an F-15 and C-130 Mechanic.  He was a man who loved being outdoors often times hunting for big game or on a body of water fishing. While he was often times very quiet he was full of wisdom and was willing to share with those he loved. He will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his parents John is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Patricia Flynn.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved Children, Mark Hume, John (Amy) Hume, Susan (Bill) Lytle; Grandchildren, Jessica (Christopher) Ford, Kristin Hume, Katie Hume, Savannah Hume; Great-grandchildren, Shelby Ford and Kynzie Hume. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to John’s hunting buddy, Larry (Valerie) Myrick for all the hunting trips and countless memories. They would also like to thank Dave and Sandy Baardsen for not being just great neighbors but for the love, and compassion they had expressed while caring for John.
