Obituary of Emmett Asbell

 Emmett Smith (Smitty) Asbell passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021, at age 77, after a three-week battle with severe complications of Covid-19. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, love of automobiles and devotion to family and friends.

 

Smitty was born on September 14, 1943, in Macon, GA, to Eustace Asbell and Ella Florence Swearingen Asbell. After the breakup of his home, Smitty and his siblings grew up in the Masonic Home of Georgia in Macon. He deeply appreciated the security and care he received there, and he became a loyal supporter of the Home. He maintained contact with his extended family through frequent visits to the Home and to Alumni and Camp reunions. He also became a Master Mason.

 

Smitty graduated from Lanier High School in Macon and attended Norman Park College, Norman Park, Georgia, where he received training in electrical service. He worked in the automotive shop at Sears and Roebuck in Warner Robins. For many years he served as a territory representative for Moog Auto Parts Company and received company-wide recognition for having accomplished the most customer contacts during one year of his employment. After leaving Moog, Smitty spent his remaining years in friendship and service to others. His passion for cars was very much appreciated by many family members and friends. Smitty was often called upon when car care advice was needed, or a purchase was being considered. He also chauffeured family and friends to their medical appointments over much of central and north Georgia.

 

Smitty was predeceased by his parents; his sister Shirley Dianne A. Frazier of Rome, GA; and his brother Jerry W. Asbell of Byron, GA. Survivors include his son Christopher Smith Asbell (Lisa) of Marietta, GA and daughter Christy Michele Jackson Watkins (William) of Calhoun, GA, He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren; Ashley Asbell (Josh) Wolfe, Cameron Hunter (Mindy) Harris, Jessica Watkins. as well as his great grandchildren; Raeleigh and Adalin Harris, Taylor Harris and Ella Grizzle. Brothers, Donald R. Asbell of Buda, TX, and James E. Asbell of Warner Robins, Al Williamson of Forsyth, GA, Michael Asbell of Orange Park, FL and Bryan Asbell of Chester, GA and sister Kathy Asbell of Jeffersonville, GA. He will also be deeply missed by very dear friend, Doris Albritton of Warner Robins and many nieces and nephews.

 

Services honoring Smitty’s life will be held on Saturday, May 22. 2021 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home at 701 Carl Vinson Parkway in Warner, Robins, GA 31093. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 conducted by members of Tyrian Masonic Lodge of Warner Robins. A private interment will follow at Parkway Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Georgia Endowment Fund, The Grand Lodge of Georgia, F. & A.M. 811 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201-6779.
