Obituary of Robert Guy Harshman

Kathleen, GA. - Robert Guy Harshman, 89, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2020. Because of Covid-19, there will not be a formal visitation or service.

Loving father of Robert Earl Harshman (Canton), and Lisa Carol Smith (Forsyth), proud grandfather of Reed Harshman Baxter (Duluth), brother, Lawrence E. Harshman (Eatonton) and Doranne M. Weaver (Blue Ridge). Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Alma.

Bob was born on April 11, 1931, in Midland, Michigan to Guy Harshman and Mildred Ordiway Harshman. He graduated from Midland High School on 1949. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge, he continued his education, culminating with a specialist’s degree in psychology awarded by Central Michigan University.

In 1956, Bob married his sweetheart, Alma Roberts. His professional career revolved around education holding various positions including, teacher, social worker, special education program coordinator, and school psychologist. In 1985, he and his family moved to Fort Valley, Georgia where he continued to work as a psychologist until his retirement in 1997. Never one to settle down, he joined Alma in her construction business until her passing in 2008.

Bob enjoyed several activities, including woodworking, coin collecting, old cars, model railroading and travel. He was an avid deer hunter. However, his favorite quarry was Pheasant. He traveled to his farms in South Dakota each year to hunt them until his heath began to fail.

Bob will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, distinguished psychologist, avid hunter, proud patriot and U.S. Army Veteran.
