Maria and Dona,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. The Byrd family will always cherish the opportunity to have accompanied Mr. Lewis to the White House for the Tee Ball on the South Lawn game. Not many people know this part of the story, but as the players and parents were being directed to their benches and seats, Mr. Lewis chose to stay in the shade up the first base line. Just as we were seated, we looked over to check on him and he was standing in his spot having a one on one conversation with President Bush. It was a truly special experience for all of us, including President Bush!
Wishing you grace and peace,
Mark, Amy, and Parker Byrd

I am truly sorry for your loss.
Mr. Lewis made his mark in our part of the world by bringing organized recreation to children & adults and touched the hearts of many with his kindness in the process.
Maria & Dona, my favorite memory of your Dad was the Friday night fish frys at his house for his employees. Talk about building team work!!!
I hope you feel surrounded by much love in knowing he is with your Mom, Mary, now.
May peace be in your heart knowing your Dad was well taken care of in his last years by ya'll.
With love, Marie

I actually met Claude over the telephone. Claude was like a Father to my son Randy and Claude and I spoke one day while Randy was visiting in his home. I learned that Claude had trained War Dogs during WW II. I’m a bit of history buff for that conflict. Claude agreed, and I met him at his home, along with Randy, and made a video of Claude as he spoke of his WW II experiences. War Dogs saved many lives in WW II and, who knows how many may have lIved a long life, having been defended by dogs Claude trained? I found Claude to be a kind and gentle soul that dearly loved his dog, Sam, his family and the citizens of Warner Robins. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

As a young girl I took ceramics at the recreation center. I still have several pieces that I made and gave to my mother and great grandmother. After they passed away I got them back. Me. Claude Lewis provided a special place for me to make and still have memories! He provided us a safe place to go to meet with our friends, dance and hang out in high school. We loved going to the recreation department!! Thank you Mr. Claude Lewis for the many wonderful, fun activities you provided for us but most of all “thanks for the memories!! In Loving Memory To my Friend... Claude Lewis
To Maria,Cat,Dona, Butch,Cody,Sam,Bingo the extended Lewis And Fussell family all the Doctors,Nurses and the Hospice
Staff I want to thank you all for taking such great care of this "GENTLE MAN.'The City of Warner Robins as well as the state
of Georgis we have all lost a TRUE TREASURE.I worked for Claude Lewis at the Warner Robins Recreation Department from
1975-1979.An experience of a life time that I never will forget.I had no idea or realized that I was walking into BULLDOG NATION..
TOOOOO much red and black so I decided to form my own nation of one ME... GATOR NATION...orange and blue.
I will always remember those Fla/Ga games and conversations we had between the two of us.In August we would have a coaches
conference call and discuss the upcoming Sec season and predict who would win the conference.Claude always picked UGA and
of course I picked my GATORS..We would talk and laugh and discuss how we needed to get rid of Alabama legally....
Working for Claude Lewis was a privledge and a honor because I saw a MAN that exemplified compassion, loyalty, kindness,
character, grace, integrity, determantion, dignity and especially a true passion for his entire family and the City of Warner Robins.
This GENTLE MAN touched so many lives young and old because Claude Lewis always CARED..A blessing for all of us to
remember.
