Frank and I had the privilege of knowing the Mayo family through the years but one thing stands in our mind...Mr. George was a great mentor through his example of living! You couldn't help but see the Lord through his actions!
We send love, prayers and hugs to all of you during this sadness of his transition to his heavenly home, but also rejoice with you as we await our reunion.

We have carried the memory of George and Sara Mayo in our hearts since 1974, when we became members of Green Acres Baptist Church. They were just "good people" and wonderful representatives of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was a wonderful experience knowing them, seeing them together as a couple, and knowing how blessed their family was to have them as "parents, grands, and greats." Serving with George on the deacon board was a testimony of his strong faith in the way he loved his Savior and the church. If George was involved, church decisions would be made with love and concern for others. George was a quiet and unassuming man who was easy to get to know. George would sometimes tell about his days in England during World War II, working maintenance in the 8th Air Force during the height of the air war in Europe. He told of how long they would work on the ground to keep the bombers in the air, and how bone-tired men would sometimes fall asleep standing on a work stand in the middle of the maintenance they were performing. Knowing George, he was for us and always will remain in our memory a
member of "the greatest generation." Men like George have given all of us the gift of living our lives in freedom. Rest in peace, brother. We have not lost you because we know where you are and we will see you later. Love, Jim & Mary Frances Lewis
