Melanie, I am so very sorry to hear of my cousin, Doug's passing. Although I didn't get to see Doug much after Robert and I moved to South Carolina, I'll always cherish the years we shared as grandchildren at Granny Roberts' house. Melanie, may God give you and your family the peace, comfort, strength and love that only he can provide. Much love,Brenda

I knew Doug for almost 60 years, and, considered him a close friend that was really part of the "Evergreen Street Family" that supported each other and got into and out of many fun situations. Doug was always fun loving and a true leader who commanded, in his own unassuming way, respect. I appreciated watching him tinker with lawn mowers, Volkswagen's, dune buggies, go-carts, and anything else that had a motor. Also, I fondly remember fishing with Doug and fishing with both Doug and his father at Lake Joy spillway. I also have great memories of Doug riding his green Stingray bicycle (V-bars and banana seat) with the rest of us from Evergreen Street. He was the first with a car and was not selfish offering rides so that we could listen to his 8-track tape of the Jackson 5 and Three Dog Night. Doug was an original renaissance man and the most selfless and genuine individual I have known. He enjoyed life to the fullest--even when sick shooting off 4th of July Fireworks--and always had a smile and a friendly word of personal interest in everyone he met. If you were fortunate enough to be counted a friend of Doug's you had a friend indeed and a friend for life--I loved Doug. Ange and I send our heartfelt condolences to Melanie, Phyllis, and all of the Griffin family during this time of tremendous loss.

I've known Doug close to 60 years. There was a special bond with everyone that grew up on Evergreen Street. Doug was a big part of that bond. So many ball games, camp outs, bike rides, go carts, dune buggy"s, sleep overs, 45 records and generally growing up together. Doug was so friendly and funny, never an enemy did he have. I'm glad to call Doug my true friend. I will miss him but cherish all the best memories a childhood could have. May God give the entire family peace and happiness in the memories of such a gentle and caring man.
All our love,
Joe and Debbie Harbin
